Your doctor has ordered a tilt table test. What does this mean? This test is for patients with unexplained syncopal episodes (dizzy/fainting spells). The result of this study may help your doctor better understand the reason behind these episodes and help direct your care in the future.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
- You will be asked not to eat anything after midnight prior to the test. You should drink an eight-ounce glass of water 1-2 hours prior to the test.
- The test will take place at Kramer & Crouse Cardiology, PA. You can anticipate this test to take 1-2 hours to complete.
- Upon arrival at Kramer & Crouse Cardiology, P.A., the test will be further explained to you and you are encouraged to ask any questions you may have.
- An IV will be started so that fluids and medications may be administered.
- A nurse will monitor your blood pressure, heart rhythm, and heart rate throughout the procedure.
- You will be asked to lie on a table in a dim, quiet room where you will be positioned in certain degrees of incline.
- During the tilting procedure, we will try to reproduce the symptoms that occur during your light-headed/fainting episodes. This may or may not require medication administered through your IV.
- Your responses during the test will help your physician determine treatment that is appropriate for your medical condition.
