CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE

REMEMBER:

  • Pace or limit activities to a moderate level of effort.
  • Rest when you experience shortness of breath or fatigue.
  • Follow your low-salt diet.
  • Take medications as directed.
  • Your doctor should direct the use of alcohol.
  • Weigh daily at the same time and record your weight.
  • Attend your doctor appointments.
  • Get annual flu shots and a pneumonia vaccine, if advised.

NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU EXPERIENCE:

  • Persistent cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing while lying flat
  • Swelling of your feet, ankles, or abdomen
  • Sudden onset of shortness of breath while sleeping
  • Weight gain of greater than two pounds per day or five pounds per week
  • Not tolerating food, fluid, or medication
  • Progressive weakness or fatigue
  • Unexplained difficulty or concerns
