BLEEDING PRECAUTIONS
If you are taking a blood thinner or have a condition that puts you at increased risk for bleeding, you should remember the following information.
NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU:
- Experience bleeding from a cut that is not easily controlled by applying direct pressure with your fingers
- Notice a significant increase in bruises not caused by injury
- Have excessive bleeding from your nose or gums
- Experience blood in your urine (red or dark brown in color) or blood in your stool (red or black in color)
- Cough or vomit blood
- Have abnormal or excessive vaginal bleeding
- Experience severe or prolonged headaches or unusual pain or swelling
- Notice feelings of weakness, dizziness, or fainting
- Notice changes in mental alertness, vision, or ability to speak
- Are unable to take your medicine
- Are starting a new prescription or over-the-counter medicine
- Have a significant change in your diet or health
- Take or are planning to take vitamins, diet supplements, or drink alcohol
- Are planning a dental or medical procedure
AVOID:
- Contact sports or activities that may cause falls or injury
- Sharp objects, such as razors
- Stiff-bristled toothbrushes
- Constipation, rectal suppositories or enemas
- Medicine by injection, unless absolutely necessary
